Rev. John E. Mueller comes to the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church after serving twelve years as the senior pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church of Springfield, Massachusetts. Rev. Mueller is an Elder within the New England Conference and has served under appointment for 29 years. Prior to serving in Springfield, Rev. Mueller was the pastor of the Calvary UMC in Arlington, Massachusetts; the Union UMC in Fall River, Massachusetts and an associate pastor of the Calvary UMC in Middletown, Rhode Island.
In all of Rev. Mueller’s previous appointments he has focused on strengthening the congregation and partnering with others in the local community. He is committed to dynamic and authentic worship, meaningful small group experiences, an intergenerational faith community, lifting up the sacredness of all of God’s creation and connecting with others in the local community who are also doing God’s work. In his prior appointments the congregations with whom he has served have focused on a variety of local initiatives including public education, after school programs, affordable housing, homelessness, mental health and immigration.
Rev. Mueller is married to Joy, who has served as the statistician for the New England Conference of United Methodist Church for 25 years. Together, they have three children, Alicia Winslow, who is married to Benjamin and living in Tiverton, RI; Jacob, who is living and working in Boston, and Joanna, who graduated from college in May and recently finished serving with AmeriCorps. They have two grandchildren, Norah (10) and Elijah (5).
Both John and Joy love Cape Cod. They have vacationed on the Cape since they were children and have owned a home in West Dennis for 16 years. This past fall, they purchased an historic home in South Dennis. In their free time John and Joy enjoy being with their family, working on their “new” home, spending time outdoors hiking, bicycle riding, canoeing and walking their yellow lab, Bailey. They are excited about this appointment and looking forward to sharing ministry with the people who are the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church.
