“Angels from the Realms of Glory!”

Angels play a significant role in the stories we have about the birth of Jesus.  This five-week study will invite participants to look more closely at the stories surrounding Jesus’ birth and the messages of the angels within them.  These heavenly beings, let Zechariah know he and his wife Elizabeth will be giving birth to a son named John, even though they thought they would not be able to have children; they share the extraordinary news with Mary, that she has been chosen to be the mother of God; they encourage Joseph to not “dismiss” Mary, when he discovers she is “with child;” they choose to share the good news of Jesus’ birth with shepherds working in the fields at night; and they warn Jospeh and Mary to flee the wrath of Herod.  Throughout the study we’ll refer to other stories in the Bible about angels as well, so we can get a better understanding of these messengers from God.  We’ll also sing different songs of the season that mention angels, like “Hark the Herald Angels Sing,” “Angels from the Realms of Glory,” “Angels we Have Heard on High,” “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and more.  This study will be offered on Tuesdays, starting November 28th, at 12:30 p.m. in person in the Parish Hall, and at 6:30 p.m. online via Zoom.  We’ll take the Tuesday after Christmas “off,” but have our final class on Tuesday, January 2nd.
